SMB Access for Multi-Protocol Jobs

SMB access configuration enables a Linux Agent to access data on a file server using the SMB file sharing protocol.  It is used only in multi-protocol job scenarios and is not required for jobs that use SMB-only or NFS-only protocols.

When SMB access is required:

SMB access configuration is required when all of the following conditions apply:

The job is a multi-protocol job

A Linux Agent participates in the job

One or more of the following applies:

oWindows-style permissions must be synchronized

oBoth Windows-style and Linux-style permissions are synchronized (mixed permissions)

oThe storage platform is Nutanix Files

In these situations, the Linux Agent requires SMB access to correctly process Windows-style permissions while participating in a multi-protocol job.

How SMB access is used:

SMB access configurations are created once and can be reused across multiple jobs.

A single SMB access configuration can be used by multiple Linux Agents, as needed.

SMB access configuration is not tied to a specific job; it provides access credentials that Agents can use when required.

SMB access configuration does not control how data is transferred between systems. It enables Agents to access data using the SMB protocol when required to process Windows-style permissions.

Where SMB access is configured:

SMB access configurations are created and managed in Preferences.  Once configured, they can be selected when prompted during job creation or editing.

For instructions on configuration, see SMB Access Configuration.
