File System Analytics

The primary purpose of File System Analytics (FSA) is to gather file system data and send it to PeerIQ for analysis and visualization.  The data is then displayed on the File System Analytics pages within the PeerIQ interface.

FSA offers advanced capabilities for analyzing unstructured data within your storage infrastructure.  Leveraging the same scan engine utilized by the standalone File System Analyzer tool, FSA enhances PeerIQ with the following features:

Expanded Protocol Support:

File System Analytics supports both SMB (Server Message Block) and NFS (Network File System) protocols, ensuring comprehensive coverage across diverse storage environments.

Centralized Reporting:

PeerIQ provides a centralized and user-friendly set of reports, consolidating insights from all file servers within your environment.  This simplifies the process of accessing and analyzing data across multiple storage systems.

Detailed File Type and Extension Reports:

File System Analytics offers detailed reports on file types and extensions.  This allows users to gain insights into the composition of their data and identify trends related to specific file formats.

Data Aging:

File System Analytics provides information on file timestamps and aging, facilitating informed decision-making regarding storage management and optimization.

Historical Analysis:

Administrators can access historical data, enabling them to track file type and data age changes over time.

Scheduled Scans:

Scans are scheduled to run every Saturday at 9 PM by default, covering all volumes managed in real-time by PeerGFS.  The File System Analytics scan process ensures regular and consistent data collection for analysis.  Future releases of PeerIQ will include options for adjusting scan schedules and coverage areas to better align with specific user requirements.

See Analytics Preferences for information about enabling and configuring File System Analytics.
