File Activity Analytics

The primary purpose of File Activity Analytics (FAA) is to gather statistics about how users and clients are accessing file server data and send them to PeerIQ for analysis and visualization.  The data is then displayed on the File Activity Analytics pages within the PeerIQ interface.

FAA offers advanced capabilities for analyzing unstructured data within your storage infrastructure.  Leveraging the same real-time engine as the standalone File Activity Analyzer tool, FAA enhances PeerIQ with the following features:

Expanded Protocol Support:

File Activity Analytics supports both SMB (Server Message Block) and NFS (Network File System) protocols, ensuring comprehensive coverage across diverse storage environments.

Centralized Reporting:

PeerIQ provides a centralized and user-friendly set of reports, consolidating insights from all file servers within your environment.  This simplifies the process of accessing and analyzing data across multiple storage systems.

User Activity:

File Activity Analytics offers a report showing user behavior over time across all file servers as well as a list of the top ten users by overall activity.  This provides insights into which users are most active and their patterns of activity.

Historical Analysis:

Administrators can access historical data, enabling them to track user activity changes over time.

Real-time Statistics Gathering:

Unlike with the scan-based engine of File System Analytics, File Activity Analytics relies on statistics that are collected and sent to PeerIQ on an ongoing basis.

Upcoming releases of PeerIQ will add additional user-based and client-IP-based insights as well as details on most commonly accessed extensions and folder paths.

See Analytics Preferences for information about enabling and configuring File Activity Analytics.
