Analytics

Overview

Peer Software provides a Microsoft Power BI-based dashboard to our subscription customers that system administrators can use to monitor the health and performance of PeerGFS and the replication environment.  The Analytics Dashboard provides intelligent insights into how PeerGFS and your storage environment are performing.

The Analytics Dashboard is viewable online in a web browser or on a mobile device.  The Analytics Dashboard is easy to access--Peer Software sends you a link to view it in a web browser.  If you want to view on a mobile device, you will need the Power BI app.  It is downloaded automatically when you click the link to access the dashboard.

The Analytics Dashboard combines information from multiple sources, making it easy for you to view the status of PeerGFS and your environment in one place.  The dashboard provides a visual and interactive interface that displays telemetry that is updated automatically every 30 minutes by default.  You can display details on a chart by hovering over a data point on the chart.  You can also subscribe to daily reports that are sent to you via email.

The Analytics Dashboard is currently geared to provide information such as:

Agent information, including disk space and memory utilization of all Agents.

Job information, including watch set growth, overall performance, and how long it takes to replicate files.

Overall PMC information, including disk space and memory utilization, queue backlogs, and quarantine counts.

Some of the information displayed in the Analytics Dashboard is available in the Peer Management Center client interface; however, the dashboard brings the information together for easy access and provides historical data not found in the PMC client.

Health Checker

The Analytics Dashboard integrates information from Peer Software's Health Checker tool.  The Health Checker is a standalone service designed to alert on outages and backlog spikes, as well as track overall performance of the replication environment.  To view replication performance details in the Analytics Dashboard, the Health Checker must be installed on either a standalone server in the environment (if both alerting and performance monitoring are desired) or on the PMC server itself (if only performance monitoring is desired).

Analytics in the Future

In the future, the Analytics Dashboard will provide even more information and in greater detail.  For example:

Proactive information about your PeerGFS environment, how well it is performing, and details about what it is replicating.

Trends and insights around what is stored on the file servers across your storage infrastructure.

Trends and insights around how your users and applications are using the data on the file servers across your storage infrastructure.
