PeerGFS can synchronize symbolic links in File Collaboration, File Replication, and File Synchronization jobs. The Symbolic Link Strategy setting on the General page determines how symbolic links are handled.
•Copy: Copies the symbolic link itself to destination hosts.
•Follow: Follows the symbolic link and copies the target file or folder contents.
The default strategy and the options available depend on the job protocol and participant configuration.
For File Collaboration, File Replication, and File Synchronization jobs that use SMB and contain only Windows File Server participants:
•New jobs default to Copy.
•Existing jobs default to Follow.
•You can select either Copy or Follow.
For jobs that use SMB and contain one or more NAS participants:
•New jobs are set to Follow, and the setting cannot be changed.
•Existing jobs are assigned Follow, and the setting cannot be changed.
•Copy is not supported.
If you add a NAS participant to an existing job that uses SMB and whose Symbolic Link Strategy is set to Copy, PeerGFS displays a warning. Change the strategy to Follow before saving the job.
For File Collaboration, File Replication, and File Synchronization jobs that use NFS:
•New jobs default to Copy.
•Existing jobs default to Follow.
•You can select either Copy or Follow.
For File Collaboration, File Replication, and File Synchronization jobs that use Multi-Protocol:
•New jobs default to Copy.
•Existing jobs default to Follow.
•You can select either Copy or Follow.
The restrictions that apply to jobs using SMB with NAS participants do not apply to jobs using Multi-Protocol; Copy and Follow remain available.
When you change Symbolic Link Strategy for an existing job, PeerGFS displays a confirmation message because changing the strategy can affect data that already exists on destination hosts:
•Changing from Follow to Copy can cause existing regular files or folders to conflict with the symbolic links that PeerGFS attempts to create. Files or folders affected by the change may be quarantined.
•Changing from Copy to Follow does not remove symbolic links or other data that were previously created on destination hosts.
