TLS Certificate Terminology

The following terms are used throughout the TLS certificate management topics.

Term

Description

TLS

Transport Layer Security.  A protocol used to secure communications between PeerGFS components.

Certificate

A digital file used to establish identity and encrypted communication between components.

Broker Certificate

The certificate used by the broker to secure communications with Agents and other brokers.

Agent Certificate

A certificate used by PeerGFS Agents to authenticate and communicate securely with the broker.

Web Client Certificate

A certificate used to secure HTTPS communication for the PMC web client.

Topology Perspective

The PMC perspective used to view and manage topology components, including certificate management operations.

Maintenance Mode

A broker state that allows broker certificate management operations while minimizing disruption to running jobs
